Course info
The research profile of the Division of Law is extensive and focuses around three central areas: the regulation of business; legal information management; and international and European trade regulation. Much of that research is empirical and supported by significant research funds. Over the past five years several books have been produced with many contributions also being made to edited works and numerous articles in learned legal journals. Individual staff specialisms include: interpretation of contracts; teaching standards enforcement policies; subject access under the Data Protection Act; NHS organ donation and Equal Opportunities. Much of the work of the division is interdisciplinary, exploring the emerging frontiers of the subject. The Division hosts the Caledonian Centre for Consumer Law and Research, whose primary aims are to undertake research projects and develop programmes, designed to improve awareness of consumer issues and underpin the professional role of the Trading Standards Officer. It is also a partner in the Joseph Bell Centre for Forensic Statistics and Legal Reasoning, currently funded by a three year SHEFC Research Development Grant. The other partners are Law; Artificial Intelligence and Maths at Edinburgh University . Further staff links exist with the European Public Law Centre.
